Food Establishment Inspections Search

What we do? There are approximately 1100 restaurants in Washington County, each receiving two unannounced routine health inspections per year. The Environmental Health Program also inspects mobile food businesses, vending machine operations, temporary food service operations and investigates consumer complaints. Follow-up inspections are conducted on any facility where a public health risk is identified. Inspections focus on food temperatures, food preparation practices, worker hygiene, dishwashing and sanitizing, equipment, and facility cleanliness.

A restaurant must receive a score of 70 to pass the inspection. Consumers can find a placard on the restaurant entrance that indicates if a facility passed the last routine health inspection. Look for the following placards to determine the inspection status of the facility:

1. Complied
2. Failed to Comply
3. Certificate of Merit
4. Closed
In 2008, the Environmental Health Program of Washington County conducted 2340 routine restaurant inspections, 202 routine mobile food unit inspections, 554 temporary food operation inspections, 576 reinspections in facilities where serious food safety violations were found, investigated 202 consumer complaints, and 111 cases of reported food borne illness.
